5 Places to Treat Yourself to Lunch

For those who go out to lunch every day, every other day or as an occasional treat - this story is for you. There are scads of lunch-time choices in uptown Charlotte. To help you narrow in on where to go, here are five places I visited that I think are worth dropping in on.

American Roadside

440 S. Church St. 704-335-3352.

I'll go back just for the fries and orange Cremesicle shake. The burgers were good, too - you can choose from signature burgers or create your own. $6.95 buys a cheeseburger, fries and drink; toppings range from traditional (lettuce, tomato, pickles) to the less-so (sauerkraut and roasted jalapenos). A soft bun does a fine job of soaking up the burger's salty, greasy goodness.

American Roadside also offers chicken sandwiches, hot dogs, salads and wings. Yet, I think the fries are the real find. They're ultracrisp on the outside with plenty of potato filling inside. The orange Cremesicle milkshake ($3.50) is thick, so do yourself a favor and let it melt a bit or you risk taxing a vein in your forehead.
